A single gay man is on a relentless search for true love. There are several close encounters of the wrong kind, princes charming turning into frogs, impossible dreams and untenable hopes, all narrated in rich dreamy prose. Room at the Top is a superb collection of short stories in English by Cuban writer Manuel A. Lopez, who arrived in the United States at age 10 during the Mariel Boatlift. His first book of poetry in Spanish Yo, el arquero aquel was published last year by Editorial Velámenes. He has contributed to publications including Contratiempo, Linden Lane, and La Peregrina Magazine. A work by Lopez was among 40 poems selected to commemorate the 75th year of the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. The collection, released in a single leather-bound volume, is on display at the Amelia Earhart Museum in Kansas.
